The 5% You're Leaving on the Table Before the Holiday Rush

Google reports a 5% average conversion lift for merchants following its AI feed guidance. The feed is the one Q4 fix most PPC teams file under someone else's job.

Key takeaways

  1. Five percent on a foundation you already own

The feed already exists. Acting on the guidance costs an afternoon, not a rebuild, and compounds across every Shopping and PMax campaign for the quarter.

  2. The advice is old, the visibility is new

Structured titles, accurate availability, complete GTINs, matching images. What changed is Google showing you per product where eligibility is lost.

  3. Feed work falls between two jobs

It is not filed as PPC work and not filed as catalogue work, so in most Q4 plans it is not filed at all.

5%. That's the average lift in conversions Google is reporting for merchants who follow its AI product-feed guidance, part of a September expansion of AI Merchant Center insights to five more countries and a new YouTube "Business Agent" beta, both timed deliberately ahead of the holiday shopping season (MediaPost; Search Engine Land).

Five percent doesn't sound like a headline. It's not getting quoted on a slide with a rocket emoji next to it. But if your product feed already exists, acting on this costs an afternoon, not a rebuild, and it compounds across every paid Shopping and Performance Max campaign running against that feed for the rest of Q4.

Boring is usually where the money is

The mechanism is the boring part, and boring is usually where the real money is. Feed quality drives eligibility and ranking on Shopping surfaces the same way it always has. Google's just gotten more explicit about which specific attributes it's rewarding right now: structured titles, accurate availability, complete GTINs, image quality that actually matches the product. None of that is new advice. What's new is Google showing you, per product, exactly where your feed is losing eligibility instead of making you guess.

The gap nobody owns

I've sat through enough Q4 planning meetings where the account gets a fresh creative refresh, a new landing page test, maybe a bidding strategy switch, and the feed itself, the actual foundation Shopping and PMax campaigns are built on, doesn't get touched because nobody thinks of it as "PPC work." It's filed under someone else's job, usually whoever manages the product catalog. That's the gap. The highest-leverage fix this quarter probably isn't in the campaign settings at all.

If you manage paid media for anyone selling physical product, run their feed through Google's current AI Merchant Center recommendations before the holiday traffic hits, not during it. The window where fixing this actually changes November's numbers is closing faster than most people planning their holiday campaigns realize.
